Folks,

I have a three year-old Dell 1735 and, rather than spend loads on replacing it, I want to give it a few upgrades so it runs well enough to last another couple of years......

So, questions:

1. Can I replace my current Western Digital Scorpio Blue 250GB (WD2500BEVT) with a Crucial 128GB V4 SSD (CT128V4SSD2CCA)?

2. If so, is 128GB big enough to run 7 Ultimate with a fairly full set of software (Adobe Master, CorelDraw, SPSS, Matlab)?

3. Can i put the current HD into the HDD2 position - just pick it up and pop it in?

Apologies if these are stupid questions - I have rather lost track of SATA versions and SSD things.......

Any advice much appreciated!

hi

i have a dell 1747 which i'm looking to change but i upgraded mine fine.

i run a 60 gig OCZ agility 3 SSD - runs at sata 2 speeds - no problems and run my 2nd 640 gig hdd in the 2nd bay - had to buy the caddy from the bay. you need to buy the caddy as it has a wierd angled adaptor, thanks dell.

128 gig SSD is plenty big enough. 20 gig for windows and probably 40 gig for programmes max.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply - i was beginning to despair of getting any advice!

If i get a OCZ agility to use as the OS HD, can i simply pop it into the HDD2 place (with a caddy).

Or, should it go in the HDD1 position and move the original HD to HDD2?

MANY thanks!

you can do that and change the boot drive in the bios. remember to select AHCI mode in bios before installing windows on it as it increases performance.

the caddy cost me about £15 as there's not many about. i think dell wanted a ridiculous amount for one if i remember rightly.
