Hi all,

so just took a 1920x1080 res laptop into sickbay and replaced it a better laptop but with a lower native screen res of 1366x768. When hooked up to 1080p 24" screen the user is complaining that everything looks too big. Usually people complain that the text and icons on a HD screen look too small. This woman moans that its too big.
Its windows 7 pro and i can only find options to 'increase' the text and icon sizes.
Anyone know of a way to reduce their size so it looks nearer to the 1920x1080 res sizes that she's used to?
She actually wants her sick laptop fixed due to this, yet the one i've given her is a much better spec, it just doesn't have the HD screen that the sick one does.

Any advice appreciated, thanks :)

Is the GPU capable of 1080p out to an external monitor?

In Windows, go to control panel -> display and then on the left hand side select change display settings. It'll take you to the screen resolution settings. In the "multiple display" drop down, select "extend these displays" or "show desktop only on 2". 2 is usuall the plugged in display, but you can make sure it is by pressing identify beside the screens at the top of the window. If the GPU is capale of 1080p out once you've selected "extend" or "show desktop only on #" select the display you want to adjust the resolution of (#2) and then select the resolution from the drop down.

Thanks for the suggestions. Doesn't look like the GPU is scalable as the option to change the res is greyed out. :(

edit: Actually.....i needed to 'apply' the settings, then it let me alter the res.
Wicked thanks buddy, saved me loads of time....and moaning from her! :)

Do you know what processor is in the laptop? If it's a modern processor with onboard GPU, it should be more than capable of outputting to 1080p. And make sure after you've selected apply changes and keep this configuration you select the screen from the top of the control panel that you want to adjust the resolution on.

All sorted now. Many thanks.
10 years in I.T. management, really didn't know about this.
I guess i could have figured it out, but it just didn't occur to me.
Humble is as humble does!
