Hi everyone,
Looking at buying a laptop for my other half.
Big WoW player, and with an eye on the graphical improvements in Cataclysm, something with more oomph than a HD3200 is gonna be needed i think.
The laptops ive identifyed upto now are roughly the same spec/price, but all have different video cards, out of the ones below, which is the best performing? From what i can gather, the 210M is the newest, but the 4570 is the quickest.

- Mobility Radeon 4570
- Mobility Radeon 3200
- GeForce 9300GS
- Geforce G 210M

Or can anyone else name another good laptop with a good/better video card than those for £500. (must be dual core, 4Gb ram, webcam, ect; ).

Thanks in advance all. :).

You're correct, the Radeon 4570 is the best. The other three are much of a muchness.

The best you're going to get by far in this price range is the Acer Aspire 5739G, which is selling for £600 in the rainforest. It has a GeForce GT240M which is around the performance of a laptop Radeon 3850. Definitely worth the extra £100 if you can afford it.

There were also some Acers floating around with 9600GTs, but I think they've been phased out now in favour of the 5739G.

Take notebookcheck with a pinch of salt, its often very old benchmarks/fake benchmarks or the results have since been proven pretty wrong, its still useful as a rough guide though.

The 4570 in your list is the best.
However, that said this is WoW aimed, so 4GB isnt a bad move, although you could get by on 3GB, graphics card is important, but also dont skimp on the processor. In a lot of the new areas (even in Wrath), having a poor processor will cap your framerate heavily, in busy areas, as the engine is so old and poorly optimised for modern machines, that it really appreciates core speed (hell it was only a bit over a year ago they even added dual core support, which made my old Fujitsu run about twice as fast because the main core load is so heavy)

If you dont mind refurbished I just found this:
£450
ACER 7535G824 RECON
AMD Turion ZM82 x2 (2.2Ghz Turion dual core, edit looks similar to a T5670/T7100 processor in performance, which seems to be T4200 region...gah Intel naming :()
4GB DDR2
512MB 4570m
500GB HDD
DVDRW
17.3" screen.

Will keep looking:
Laminated house of dreams seems a bit poor right now.
Same with the purple shirt including retail group

The G 210M is the best in that list, a lot of people will tell you the 4570 is better because it looks better on notebook check and they havent tested the 210m yet just shown estimates based on the older geforce model >.<

according to them the 4570 averages 3.6k in 3dmark06, well the G 210m averages 4-5k depending on the cpu its paired with

I searched the Acer Aspire 5739G and i can only find it with the 130m. What kinda fps drop am i likely to see between the GeForce GT 130M and the GeForce GT240M.
