Laptop VS Desktop Gaming

I don't understand how your Mrs will be ok with you gaming on a laptop but she isn't when you use a desktop?

Surely gaming is gaming regardless of what device you do it on?

May be its the fact your gaming in the office upstairs and she wants to be with you downstairs.

Solution: Move your desktop into the kitchen. :)

Yep :).

She doesn't want you to buy a Laptop though , What she wants is for you to not be on the PC full stop lol

I would no way get rid on my Desktop.....no chance :D

I do a lot of gaming on my well battered MSI GX740 laptop (B-Stock from OC :) ) and it stands up well for most of the games I play - Heavily modded Skyrim with ENB series (SSAO disabled); Guild Wars 2; Deus Ex 3; Shogun 2; SWOTR and Arma 2.

Had to sell my desktop because we needed to convert spare room in nursery and wife complained about me being in otherside of the bungalow all evening.

Advantages of a laptop is that once you buy one, you will not spend cash frequently on pc upgrades (I replace my laptops every 3 years). I can tinkle with Photoshop and show the missus the results, distracting her from her crap reality tv shows and making her annoyed.

From the list of games, I have not included fps games as I got bored of them after Cod MW2 (which ran maxxed on the lappy).

Desktops will always win, could not imagine reverting to a laptop for gaming that would suck!

That wireless HMDI sounds interesting, did not know you could do that (or is someone takin the ****?)

You'll never be able to match the performance of a gaming rig with a laptop, even if you get to the top range. Even then, it'll be incredibly expensive.

As people have said, you won't get anywhere near the performance of a desktop on a laptop without paying a few thousand. Even then you will have to put up with the keyboard and trackpad.

wireless hdmi is that working ok for gaming?

Yeah its ok, but you need to make sure that it has a small delay so you don't notice any lag when inputting a control. Also it can suffer from interference if you have something operating on the same band and it can be quite pricey.

I had the same issue with the mrs and me gaming in the other room, all you need to do is start sharing the programs you watch so make her watch loads of stuff she hates and she'll soon be glad your in the other room.

It worked for me after subjecting her to several series of stargate and other scifi shows she was only too happy for me to go back to my man cave.

I love that!

i only have use to a laptop(sig) as it replaced an ageing Dell and used to heavy gaming sessions on it, i was only playing WOW and some games from steam like World of tanks, MW2, minecraft and other games i cant remember, but then i converted back to console gaming, so most games i play on laptop are certain ones from steam and facebook flash games and its more than up to the job lol, i play on ps3 mostly and use this for the web and itunes..

i do want a desktop again, but its trying to build one for as cheap as possible without plashing out on new stuff as im not in that financial situation like i used to be where i can just fork out x amounts and still pay bills meh!!...

as for the Missus, its normal for a woman to moan about something, they never happy with anything you do, mine however doesnt have a problem with me gaming on the consoles in front room and or being on laptop aswell as she has a SFF i brought her months ago on her very own desk in the corner of the room which she spends most her time on unless she wants to play her wii or the playstion or watch a bit of telly(which we hardly do anymore), so there is that compromise lol..

only time she really moans about it is if shes on one or im not pulling my weight with housework or if i dont react quicker enough to our 5 month old girl when she crys alittle for no reason or some other stupid reason to have a go at me.. problem is round eachother too much lol which is because we are looking to move, i said i want my own sanctuary for my gaming collect haha ;)

If you get rid of the desktop and get a laptop you've made a critical mistake on two fronts.

Firstly, laptops are not for gaming, they're for productivity on trains and for use when your desktop is in bits. 'Gaming laptops' are a crime against technology.

Secondly, the mrs will then complain about the laptop anyway.

Thus you have:
-spent money for a crappy downgrade
-injured your back hunching over the tiny screen
-set fire to the table/desk the laptop is on
-failed to reach a compromise with your mrs
