OK, old geezer across the road has got himself a laptop and although he can connect to the www through a hardwire, he cannot connect via wireless. I need a bit of help here please!!

Laptop: Fujitsu
Wireless card: Ralink RT2500 Wireless LAN card
ISP: BT with homehub.

On the laptop there is no wireless on/off button, so i assume it is on all the time?

I asked the guy if any hardware came with the laptio ie dongle, network card and he said not.

So, i've been to the guys home, selected 'connect to' and i can see his homehub. I click connect, enter the key and all i get is "waiting for network"

So, i brought the lappy home, scanned for networks and found my Orange network, entered the key, but again, 'waiting for the network'

On the "show all connections" i see 'local area connection" and "wireless connection 2" however, both have a dirty great big red X on the connection lines.

So, i clicked on "set up a home or small office network". The wizard states it has found disconnected Network hardware ie the wireless card and VIA Rhine FAst Ethernet Adapter.

I went into the cmd propmpt and typed 'ipconfig' and all i see is "media disconnected" with regards to the wireless adapter.

Any ideas?

right, had a light bulb moment and realised i'm a bit of a noob. When i set up my laptop i needed to pair it with my livebox. I did this with old geezers laptop and now it's connected and i can surf.

Do you know if you need to 'pair' with a BT homehub? If you do then that should fix the problem.

(i spent most of last night undoing the damage he had done when he hard wired the connection. Adding AV and a firewall and removing all the trojans etc he had got. When you surfed you were continually bombarded with pop ups and a broswer trying to take you to:

porno.org
adult.com
viagra.com

etc etc etc............!!
