Laptop wireless broadcasting NAT type problems

Hey guys,

So I have a friend that is currently at university. He has his laptop connected by ethernet to the single port in his room. The laptop is then used to broadcast the connection wirelessly, which his Xbox 360 then connects to.

Now the problem is on his Xbox 360 the NAT type is coming up as moderate when connected wirelessy in this way. However if he connects his Xbox directly by ethernet the NAT type is open.

We have tried opening the necessary ports on the computer to see if that would help. But it did not seem to make a difference. Being at university he has no access to any of the network devices.

As far as I can see it is not going to be possible because the computer is running both wired and wireless networks at the same time. Perhaps a router or something would help?

Does anybody know of any solutions that might solve this problem?

Thanks guys.

I'm not sure if I understand this scenario completely, but I reckon the laptop will have to NAT in order to perform ICS (the local clients will be hidden behind the IP of the Laptop's NIC that connects to the uni LAN).

Does this connection to the UNI LAN give you 1 connection and a fixed address or is it DHCP? In the latter case you might just want to bridge it or use the switch portion of any "internet router" you have laying around.

BTW - If the connection gets shut down when you try putting a switch on the end, don't be surprised. :p

Thanks for the response. I think you are right yes and I believe it uses DHCP, as well as only allowing one MAC address to the port. I am not certain with the MAC address but that could also be another problem?
