Has anyone swapped out they're original 5400rpm drive and fitted a 7200rpm drive into they're laptop??

I thinking of adding two 320GB Scorpio Blacks into my HP DV1000EA but before I do I want to hear some real experiences from people about how much it affects battery and heat.

i swapped out my 2 5400rpm drives for 2 120gig 7200rpm drive in my HP dv9000
heat wise there isnt much if any difference
battery life is only a little down on before

I swapped out the standard Fujitsu 4200 rpm in my Vaio FW11ZU immediately for a 7200 rpm Scorpio Black. Cant really comment on battery life before and after as no comparisons, but battery doesnt last as long as I'd like. Does get quite hot. Such is life

lol, my 11-s is getting the scorpio black treatement tomorrow. what sort of temps does the drive reach?

I swapped the 5400 in my lappy for a 7200, temps are a little higher, you could bearly sit it on your lap, but this would depend on how thick the case is on your lappy, well worth the upgrade though, Vista loads much better on the 7200 :)

My Vista score was 4.1 in my FW11ZU with the stock hard drive, now scores 5.8 with the Scorpio in, weakest link is now the graphics card.

really? i got 4.5 with my 11s and the stock drive lol

i managed to stick the 320gb WD black in my vaio, no problems at all although frustratingly, the drive that came out is thicker than the WD - too thick to fit in the caddy i bought for it. DOH:/

Battery life might be a little worse but if it is i really havent noticed. it's louder for sure, but all you can really hear is a little rushing noise - almost like an optical drive spinning slowly. the seek noise is silent unless youve got your ear on the laptop. the performance, as expected, is a fair bit quicker. apps load a lot quicker and windows in general is much snappier now. a decent upgrade :)

....now to buy another caddy :/

Was the drive in your 11S a 4200rpm model? I seem to recall from other forums that some FW models came with a 5200 or 5400 rpm hdd, cant remember exactly.

yeah, it's a 320gb fujitsu 4200rpm drive in the 11s and 11zu, the models below those (E, L and M) use a 5400rpm 250gb drive. strange desicision from sony, that.

in all, the drive is faultless really. very little increase in tempreatures and drive noise but a good deal faster in use:)

Sorry I havne't replied at all, I got a 320GB Scorpio and things seems better and the temps seem ok as well. Not sure about battery as I rarely use it on battery. Only problem is now it looks like my laptop optical drive is duff (nothing to do with the new HDD) so waiting to hear back from HP.
