Laptop with Serial Port?

Hi

Need to replace a couple of old Dell Latitude's that had serial ports which got wrecked in a flood at work, dell only make port replicators now for the 6400+ series which I've looked at and will be fine but was wondering if there are any others out there worth looking at?

consider usb - serial adapters?

work with a guy who said they never worked well, however he never realised that if you plug it into a different USP port he comm port changes..

since I told him that he has not had an issue (he uses them to configure bt vercitility phone systems)

We do work for the Department of transport which requires serial ports and in the past they basically advised us from using them for whatever reason

That might be based on old defunct info, a USB > Serial that has an FTDI chip in should be fine.
