Laptop won't boot (sad face)

My laptop worked this morning but is now refusing to boot. It switches on but the screen is blank and won't POST or boot from CD/HDD. It did want to update this morning but I postponed it then shut the lid, but this must be what's borked it. Any ideas? I've tried the usual tricks like unplugging it and leaving it for a bit without AC or battery power. Thanks in advance.

Has it gone to sleep?

Is the power light flashing?

Press F1 if it is,

closing the lid will hibernate or sleep, usually F1 to wake up.

It seems to be stuck in sleep mode. From Google this is clearly bad news for this model (MSI).
