MSI laptop that is about 10 months old, it got a blue screen as it was left on by accident (on carpet) although I thought I switched it off. Whenever I try to boot, it just gets stuck on the Windows boot logo and nothing happens, no hard drive activity. It does detect the hard drive in the boot menu though. I've also tried my PC SSD and there is no difference. I can plug my laptop hard drive into the desktop PC and recover files but I'm more concerned about whether the laptop is broken. Anything I can try like a BIOS update??

It did however boot yesterday once after about 20 attempts of trying, but when shutting down it got another blue screen. Today it wont boot at all.

Model is MSI GE620 DX.

As it's only 10 months old it's still in warranty, I'd take the hard drive out and recover all your files and then I guess it's RMA time.

Warranty is void if the backplate is removed.

It wont even boot my installation disk for windows 7, gets stuck on "starting windows" again.

Try a Linux live cd, see if that will boot, if it does you can at least recover your files without removing the hard drive, then RMA.

I got it to work eventually, just kept rebooting and finally there was hard drive activity on th windows boot logo. I really don't know what was wrong with it but I did a system restore and it seems fine now.
