Pulling my hair out here.

Laptop wont boot, just hangs at windows screen. System recovery does not work and when I boot from disk, startup repair just hangs.

When I go into command prompt and list directories, there is nothing there. no windows directories or anything. It's as if the PC's wiped itself!

Any ideas?

is there any restore features on your laptop i know my acer laptop did have a built in restore partition tht would allow me to reset my laptop back to the way it was when i bought it

Hard drive failure? If thing's have just gone walkies and repair isn't working then this could be a possibility.

Try run a CHKDSK /R from the repair screen.

Failing that doesn't work (you cant get access to command prompt on the laptop), Maybe connect the drive to another machine and do a CHKDSK /R that way? See if it throws up any errors.

Plug the drive into another computer and check it out with diagnostic tools. Sounds like a duff drive if I had to guess
