Hi, it is safe to say I know sod all about networks, so I thought I would ask your good selfs.

I had this problem a year ago. My sister got a new laptop for christmas, which I am attempting to connect to our wireless network. I had my Xbox and PS3 connected via WEP which always ran fine. However, I do understand that WEP is not exactly secure so I have attempted to run it via WPA.

No Dice.

The laptop is picking up the network, it just refuses to connect to it. I had the exact same problem a year ago and to my memory, I had to get someone out to fix it. God only knows how you people get this to work so easily, its a nightmare in here.

I have a Netgear DG834G v3 router.

The laptop is a HP dv62020sa

I dont know if it makes any difference but my desktop is on vista and the laptop is windows 7.

I really dont get what the issue is. If it wasnt picking up the laptop, or I couldnt conect any of my consoles then I assume it be some sort of hardware fault. But they two can be connected. It is this laptop, just like the old one that I cant for the life of me connect.

It just keeps coming up with,

''windows was unable to connect to the network''

Hell even when i disabled the secuirty entirely, it still wont connect to it, even when the flood gates are open (so to speak).

help!!!!!

MAC address filtering on the router?
There'll be some option, somewhere in the router's web interface, to control what MAC addresses are allowed to connect to the router's wireless.

Have set the router to WPA and entered a pre-shared key? I also assume that you had to reconfigure the other devices to use WPA and enter the key to get them working. If so then have a look at the drivers for the wireless that's causing you problems, try later/updated drivers and see if that fixes the problem.

Did you set up the router or did someone else? I ask as you say you know nothing about networking. i.e are the router settings as they come out of the box?

Have you limited the number of devices that can connect at any one time? Have you altered the lease time?
