Laptop wont start

My laptop has all of sudden has stopped working today :mad:

When I try and turn it on I get a longish beep followed by 2 short beeps and then just nothing on the screen at all so i have to hold down the power button to turn it off, I know this has somthing to do with the bios but am a bit clueless about what the problem is or how to try and fix it? (its an acer aspire 5010)

Sounds like a case of:

1 long, 2 short - Indicates a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information

Uh-oh... is it a dedicated graphics card?

I'm having trouble finding out if it is or not, its a ati mobility x700 or x800 i think. Because of its age im finding it hard to find out if it is upgradable/replacable or not :rolleyes:

Actually from what i have found on google it is a dedicated graphics card, does this mean new laptop time as there is not fix? unfortunatly its out of warrenty

Hmm... have you tried cleaning it out of dust, not sure if it's an overheating problem... but since it's out of warranty, you could open it up and have a look. Did it just one day all of a sudden not boot up with a display?

I was just browsing the internet and it all of a sudden shutdown and didnt do anything for a few hours and then from then on all its done when i press the power button is give me the beeps described above :confused:

The only thing that has happened is earlier in the week the screen half faded away and froze so I had to reboot but was fine after that untill it stopped working.

Half faded away? Can you describe that in a bit more detail? Was there like graphics corruption?

Its hard to explain, it was half faded and fuzzy and then it just froze with that image on the screen.

What's the model of your laptop? Looks like you might need a new one I'm afraid.

its a Acer Aspire 5012WLMi, well gutted its gone but thanks for all the help anyway appreciate it!
