Laptop won't turn on

I have a 3 year old Acer 1654WLMi laptop

Last week it was complaining the battery level was low and just turned off, trying to turn it on again with the charger just made the battery light flash orange.

Now the light won't flash when I try to power it on with the charger in, just wondering if it is an easy/cheap fix or something more complex? I always thought it was a nice laptop...

What do you people think?

would suspect the charger or a dry joint on the DC jack they're the first things to check.

have a look on here it describes the fault diagnosis, if your DC jack and charger are ok its probably a dead mainboard.

Right I've narrowed it down today.

I borrowed another Acer charger, it lives again...

So will universal ones do the job? I just dont know the wattage of the dead charger...

What to do now?

google the model number on the back of psu, but I don't recommend buying a cheap chinese one, not worth the hassle and are very poorly made.

I use the universal one all the time when working on laptops handed in without power adapters, but would def suggest that you get one of the originals. They are not that exepensive to be honest. Around £30 is what my Sony one cost me to buy.
