How much will a laptop capable of running oblivion cost me and can anyone reccomend a good one to go for.

I need a new laptop, and want one before my next business trip which I can see being very boring (kuala Lumpor working nights), so want a nice long lasting game to play whilst I am bored and in dodgey sleep patterns.

It dosent have to run it at max settings or anything, just run it, dont really want to spend a fortune. If its too much I suppose I'll have to buy a cheaper laptop and a DS or something! :-)
 
You need a laptop with at least a 7600 go or higher, so you looking about £1000 + depending on make and model.

Toshiba and HP have the best spec around £1000 - £1400.

Try looking for a Tosh model P100 - 429, has a 120gb hdd and 128mb 7600 go.

didn't really want to spend that much, thaught it might take a £1000+ laptop to run it.

I might just get a DS/psp and get a pool laptop from work.
 
you can get laptops for cheaper than a grand with a geforce go 7600, try looking for a custom built zepto laptop or maybe this will interest you

the specs above should be enough to run the game, obviously not at max settings but it is good specs for the price.
 
I would buy a gaming desktop rig really, you need to spend a lot of money to get a gaming laptop to get good performance with Oblivion (heck even on mine it lags a bit) then use a cheap laptop for office/browsing work.

would the 7600 Go not struggle with games played at the higher native resolution on a 17" laptop?

or can it easily play games at different resolutions with little performance loss?

Which comes out on top a 128mb 7600 GO or the 256mb ATI X1600 ?

Also what are peoples opinions on widescreen gaming? better than standard screens?

I'm looking to buy a laptop shortly up to £700 inc vat before i build the desktop main system.

The 7600Go will struggle at high resolutions. You can run at a lower res, but it won't look as good.

The 7600Go and X1600 trade places. Don't get the Macbook Pro since its X1600 is clocked down so much that its on par with the X1400 performance-wise.

Widescreen games are pretty immersive :) I run my laptop so that it scales while keeping the aspect ratio in check. Widescreen games are widescreen, 4:3 games aren't warped :)

If at all possible - make sure to try out the notebook in real life. Unlike a desktop you can't easily change the keyboard/mouse/monitor. The new Toshibas with the hotkeys down the left have a poor keyboard apparantly. Due to the hotkeys being on the left, the keyboard isn't quite fullsize.

Thanks for this tbh I'm not after a desktop replacement that will play the latest games (ie Prey, Fear, Oblivion etc) at high settings aa etc. Just something that will play them at medium settings comfortably. (im more interested in older pc games that i missed e.g. system shock 2, outcast, bg2 throne of bhaal etc and the occasional HL2)

at resolutions of 1280 x 800 and smaller which of these comes out on top? The 6800? And is it worthwhile getting a lower end card if there is like an extra 1 gig of RAM or better processor as a trade-off?

Will older pc games be compatible with a widescreen laptop? ie will it scale properly? Or i guess this is something i can fix with the laptop display settings (if so no worries)
Also what is a laptop screen like for FPS games? Same level as a good desktop TFT? Any motion blur?

but hey i wont need the heating on at night no more if i have a laptop with me ;)
