My mate has a HP G50-110EA laptop and wants to replace his hard disk. Vista is pre-installed on the computer so not start up disk is needed, will the computer automatically install vista on the new hard disk?

Thanks

The operating system will be on a hidden partition on the old hard drive, only other way is to use Acronis or equivalent to make a copy on the new hard disc.

I'd just google a driver pack for that laptop and install whatever downloaded version of Vista you can, just use the License Key on the bottom of the laptop. Its not your mate's fault they are too cheap to include restore discs, so dont feel bad about downloading a disk of Vista.

But i would take th opportunity to upgrade the system to XP or 7
