As a prev post, looking to get a laptop and did want it with an HD DVD drive. Looking around, that seems to limit things a little.

So my next thought was to get a laptop without an HD DVD drive and purchase one afterwards.

Is it the case that all after market laptop drives (optical and HDD) will fit in all laptops or do you have to buy for a particular brand?

At the moment I'm rather restricted, but if I can add drives after buying that would open up the options considerably.

Any help much appreciated. Would hate to waste money on a compromise!

Had a look at Zepto? You can change the drive to HD-DVD while still having everything you need.

Obviously didn't look hard enough! I assume it can slot in any old laptop with a DVD drive? And as long as there is a DVI out can put the picture through any old HDMI input on a TV (with the adaptor of course!)?

Being able to add an aftermarket HD DVD player could open up whole new avenues of research! Only problem I have is I need a lappy before Friday evening when I go to France, which unfortunately stops the whole DELL way of doing things.

Would end up relying on the OcUK excellent delivery system were it not for their laptops seemingly being hammered before Crimbo!

you could use the 360 hd dvd drive with a laptop, bit of a pain to carry but its a possible option haha.

Wrong colour mate, just doesn't match and I can't for the life of me see how it'd fit in the laptop drive space... ;)
