laptops and ram

i have a laptop which is about 6 months old and has 256 ram, and i just brought a new laptop with 512 ram. If i put the 256 ram into my new laptop will it run stable or do i need to buy another 512 ram ?

Depends what RAM configuration your new laptop is using. If its running 1 stick of 512 then you can put it in but their speeds may differ.

Your new laptop may be running 2x 256 sticks of RAM and if thats the case you won't be able to add more unless you take one out.
