Hi guys,

I'm after a laptop with excellent battery life, and something the 15" screen range.

Core 2 Duo CPU really also.

Have been looking at the Acer Timeline range, but was wondering if anyone had any better suggestions

Thanks,

Mal

i think the new macbook or macbook pro is supposed to have a 10hr battery life which seems like a lot. :)

i'm not sure of the processor, but you may find an i3 uses less power than a c2d.

Sorry guys, forgot to mention, it's got to be a Windows laptop! And budget is up to about £600.

Cheers!

Then I would recommend and Acer Aspire 5740g @ £599 (the configuration version below)
i3 - 330M
4Gb DDR3
Ati 5650 1gb
500gb Hard drive
DVD RW
15.6 screen (1366x768)
Windows 7 64

The battery life is very good 3-4 hrs browsing, the graphics card runs at low clock speed when in 2D mode. You didnt mention if you were going to be gaming, but if you are then this plays Mass Effect 2 & WOW at highish specs - constant 60fps. :D

If not gaming then you can choose a configuration of the 5740g with an inferior graphics card from about £475.

I picked up a Dell Studio 1558 the other week for £599.
i5 430m
4gb ddr3
Ati 4570 512mb
500gb hdd
dvd rw
15.6 screen
Win 7

It's a cracking little laptop, battery life just browsing the web on wireless is around 4hours comes down to about 2.5hours when watching avi files and browsing.
Thats on the standard 6cell battery

When I was looking for long battery life with all the bells & whistles I went for a Dell Studio 15 also, got the 9cell bat which has got a max of 7hrs usage in the past, only browsing a lite usage at the time obvously but highly recommended.

I wouldn't bother buying an Acer Aspire Timeline at the minute if I were you. I work for an Acer notebook dealer and there's the new TimelineX range coming through very very soon, specs start with the Core i3, and go up to Core i5 in the near future. Apparently I've heard rumours of the 15.6" model coming with a Core i7 but I can't say for sure when that's going to be arriving.

All should retain the 8 hour battery life also which is handy.

would you say an i3 is the best processor for battery life as it's 32nm?

Looking at the May price list from Acer which gives us an idea of what to expect in terms of spec, the Core i5-430M 5820 TimelineX is going to be shipping with a 9 cell Li-Ion battery which according to Acer (and I'd take this with a pinch of salt) is rated to give a 12 hour battery life.

The Core i3 model for comparison is shipped with a 6 cell which again according to Acer, should give you 8 hours.

Weight remains the same according to those lovely helpful people at Acer - 2.42KG for 6 and 9 cell, but I'd say the 9 cell model is going to be closer to 2.5-2.6 KG.

The 14" 4820 TimelineX is due an option of either Core i5-520M, or Core i5-430M, and will be coupled with either an HD5650, or a 5470 respectively. Both of those will have 9 cell batteries and are rated up to 12 hours.
