Hi all,
Sorry if this has been mentioned on previous occasions but has anyone had any bad experiences with these graphics chipsets in their laptops?
I have just received an XPS M1530 from Dell outlet with an 8600M, while it is an excellent laptop with great performance I am getting extremely worried about a serious flaw in apparently every single NV GPU they have produced along this line which will lead it to eventually fail. Dell as well as HP have released a BIOS update across a lot of their models of laptops to force the fan to come on much more frequently in an attempt to prolong the life of an inevitably doomed GPU.
Apparently the flaw lies within the thermal packing/bonding in the GPU which leads to overheating of the chip, this is accelerated even more so by switching laptop on/off, it is almost like a ticking timebomb.
I have seen on the Dell blog that they're extending the warranty an extra year worldwide for their laptops that have the NV84/86 chips in them.
Do you reckon that within this time nvidia will have resolved the problem and will there be a recall for GPU's that have not already been replaced?
I am annoyed that nvidia could release such hardware to OEMs and try and deny all knowledge of a problem, they knew there were abnormal amounts of GPU's failing that were supplied to a lot of OEM's but were playing it down saying that they had supplied a faulty batch to HP. Now they're more or less admitting the fault lies in ALL of their chips.
I am surprised at the dishonesty of nvidia, I always thought they were a reputable company but seeing their attitude towards this problem has changed my mind about them.
Not happy to say the least!
