Laptops with USB C

New tech and budget items don't really go well together.

What specific features of USB-C make it desirable to not buy a laptop without it?

basically its a version of usb 3.1 but with a double sided connector so you cant plug it in the wrong way, how many devices that have this fitment is probably very low at the moment

No I know what it is, but it seems strange to require it on a sub-£500 laptop which is unlikely to have any components inside that can make use of the increased bandwidth.

i would guess that he plans to have this laptop for a good few years and is expecting tech to adopt usb type c more and more in that time, meaning the laptop will be an annoyance if it's only got standard usb ports.

i'd not worry if i were the OP. although i expect type c to become more and more common, i'm sure we will be seeing a lot of type a to c connectors for a good while until most people have swapped across to type c

There seems to be a bit of lag implementing USB 3.1, even though there are many devices with type C connectors. It doesn't make much sense to have Type-C without USB 3.1 functionality, unless it's for forward compatibility at a reduced cost now.

I'm pretty sure in the next 6-9 months you'll see a huge amount of vendors making use of both USB 3.1 with type-C connectors. The obvious reason is that you can do away with standard AC adapters and therefore the AC adapter port on said laptop, making the mainboard less complicated and the port would be multifunction.

Once you consider that it can also take the place of display port and power other devices, you can see why although cost may be high, the cost saving can be huge also.

I am looking forward to having all these benefits not only on my laptop but also across my tablets, desktops and phones also. USB 3.1 + Type-C will be the most important USB standard of all time. :)

You are right, I'd want to keep it for a few years and my current one is nearly dying.

Oh and I have a phone that has a usb c input.

USB type C does not mean USB 3.1 :p. You can get type C connections following the USB 2.0 standard.

I don't think there's any cheap laptops with type C avaliable at the moment...

Oh well guess I'll have to buy one without it.

Btw, do we have any threads for blackfriday deals? Or are external websites not allowed i.e. amazon, pc world, etc
