I havent a bit of a hard time deciding over a desktop pc or a laptop my bugdet is 1000 pounds.

I will be doing video encoding and playing games not to much though.

Just wanted to know what other peoples views are on Laptops, thanks

You will need to decide if you want a desktop or laptop.
I am switching from a desktop to a laptop mainly because I found an excellent deal, but also because I want to be able to use it in any room of the house, or even up the garden, or take it on holiday, etc.
Also, this desktop PC takes up far too much room.

I should hopefully get it tomorrow. I got an excellent deal, I paid exactly £999.99 for a Intel Duo 2 2.0Ghz/4MB Cache CPU, 2GB RAM, 7900GS, 17" (1920X1200) screen, wireless, bluetooth, etc, etc.

I will let you know what I think about it tomorrow, hopefully. :D

OcUK are happy to provide the resources of these forums to responsible individuals without charge. They cost a substantial amount of money to maintain and use considerable amounts of bandwith which is paid for exclusively by OcUK. As you know OcUK are in the computer hardware business and therefore the promotion of OcUK's competitors is forbidden. Examples of promotion are :-

* Posting links to competitors websites
* Posting links to reviews that promote competitors
* Quoting the names or contact details of competitors
* Offering to provide the names or contact details of competitors
* Hinting about product availability at competitors and their pricing
* Using the forums to notify a member of intent or actual supply of names or contact details of competitors
* Listing competitors names, URL's or e-mail addresses in signatures
* Listing competitors names, URL's or e-mail addresses in profile
* Posting links to or the mentioning of auction sites
* Disguising attempts to do any of the above

Dell Inspiron 9400 - not a high street dealer, but it is a proper company who buys direct from Dell.

Did it arrive all ok Zildjian? What do you think? I'm thinking of picking one of these up myself from what sounds like a similar deal, so any info would be appreciated =D

I recieved it yesterday and it is amazing :D VERY fast, excellent for gaming, amazing screen, etc.
The only problem I had was Dell installed soooo much junk onto the machine, when it arrived there were 80 processes running...
I spent most of my time uninstalling stuff!
I have now formatted and reinstalled Windows and it is much better. So I would advice if you do buy a Dell, just format and reinstall Windows as soon as you get it.

I would highly recommend it though, it's not as heavy as I thought it would be (It's lighter than my brothers Rock Xtreme), has longer battery life than I expected (about 1.50hrs browsing the web, with a standard 6-cell battery, I think you can upgrade to 2 X 9 cell batteries which would be very good).

Best of all, I have sooooo much more space on my desk and it's so much cleaner and simple, all the horrible tangled wires have gone from behind the desk, etc.

It is even better than I expected. :)

I might be able to get some pics up tomorrow if you would like?
