Large Case Needed!

Well, after looking at the case im going to have to cut the motherboard tray :/

If i want to be able to add/remove HDDs without having to remove the cage, the Motherboard tray will be in the way. It stretches all the way front to back, so will stop me.

ive got a dremel so im going to have to start hacking that :)

Did you manage to get some hacking done?

Following this with some enthusiasm, as far as I know if you fit that you have the largest capacity for HDD's (including potential) of any Dragon style case known, by 2 :D

Ive got all the tools ready, im just pondering if when i start using the Dremel it will cause sparks... i really CBA taking the Mobo and everything out so was hoping it wouldnt spew sparks all over the motherboard, what ya think?

I could cover it with paper or something, but then that would probably go up in flames! lol

I have lots of ideas, i just have very low motivation :) Hope to start it either this afternoon, or tomorrow...

I would take it out, better to be safe than sorry.

Someone on a forum is not going to say otherwise either as it isnt their gear to break :p

Well, i tried with a dremel and i need better blades. Got some off ebay so will give that a try.

I mounted the Cage, and its got to HDDs in there at the mo. Will get some pics up tomorrow if i manage to get the Motherboard tray cut. its a tuff little bugger, thats for sure!!

hi!

Ahh I had my eyes on the stacker 810 and now ive seen the chieftec which is cheaper from this thread!

I currently have 7 harddrives and need a beast of a case!

My current case is just too small and the mounts for the hard drives are just too close together, end up buring my finger on touch with the drives in the middle!... Ive had to pull them out to save em until I get a bigger more airy case!

Do you find the chieftic (lookin at the bravo) does a good job cooling the drives?.. thing what I like about the stacker is that each of the harddrive caddies has a 12cm fan on the end blowing air over them.

The older style cheiftecs had a fan blowing over the hard drives and were much better than the newer style.

If you can find a case that uses the removeable cages then they are brilliant to this day, albeit a little noisey. (For a case that has been around for longer than most have been into PC's it is not surprising really)

The newer big models (like BA-01B-B-SL) have slots for 3x92mm fans too cool the 8x3.5" internal bays and there is actually enough spacing between the disks for it to be effective. I would say the cooling on those models is better than on the old ones. I actually purchased that monster because I liked the 2x120mm and 3x92mm fans instead of 4x80mm on the old mid tower chieftecs.

That being said, I do prefer the old ones. I gave up on using my BA-01B-B-SL and used an old chieftec mid tower instead. No cable length issues and I can close the door :)

That BA-01B-B-SL is huge, 2-3" deeper than the old ones.

edit:
and I forgot to mention that on the old mid towers (I have 2 lying around) there is enough space on the bottom to put a third cage if you remove the plastic fan holder on the bottom. Cant lock it with the lever but it works fine.

The newer style are not such good value for money these days though.

Do not know what price you paid for yours but I have yet to see them in the same price bracket as the older style.

Since I am not using it, I give it 0 for value for money :), the 410W PSU is in good use though.

look at that mess, 2xPSU, 15 disks in the bottom half :

I had to dig up all my old Deathstars for the double 8pack kodak moment :)

DAmn, he beats my record of 6 drives so far :(

This case i got does have space for 3 fans blowing over the HDD, and then being exhausted at the back with the supplied fans. Over all i think the temps are fine, full load i get CPU temps (1800XP OC'd to 2ghz) at 41, with case temps around the 30 mark.

Its a little noisy, but next pay day im going to get some quieter, 11db fans.. Will Scarifice a bit of CFM, but i dont think it will make that much diff.

Hm not sure what to do.

Its abit mad spending all this money on just a case! But I do value my data... shall have abit more of a think and weigh it up this evening.. leaning towards the stacker 810 though at the mo.

Stacker looks good but the Chiefy is just pure unadulterated sex :)

Im glad i found it at the price i did, and having yewen mention it as well helped! :)

Lol yeah its a beast alright its MASSIVE.. really caught my eye all that space is great! Can just crawl in and have a sleep if u wanna!

But id like to know how well those 92mm harddrive fans do their job?.. I have 7 drives at the moment so straight away its gonna be very crowded. Im no good at DIY stuff so count that out on doing mods lol.. id rather it all be ready for me to start lobbing my components in.

Im guessing the stacker with its 120mm fan per 4 harddrives (on the 3-4 adapter) will do a better job at cooling them compared to the bravo.... really would be great to hear from someone to compare who has had both the cases.

The new case that I get its primary job would be to allow loads of hard drives and keep them cool.
