Large vertical Radiators

Knocking through kitchen diner wall. Currently kitchen has 2 small rads and dining has 1 small rad. Looking to have just 1 large vertical rad outputting roughly 5000 BTUs .

Have seen a range of prices. Any advice on brands, retailers, specs/ features & considerations?

What i ended up with was slightly different to previously expected i'd need. The plumber/gas guy is family so all good on the specs. I ended up with a single panel Milano Alpha for £280 which heats very well.

I'd check if you can "get away" with a single radiator in such a large area, due to differing heat flow through the air. I know nothing really about it, but my brain tells me it could be something worth checking.

I got mine from Bestheating, and very impressed or surprised even, the radiator was packaged with plastic and card in such a way they know couriers love bashing stuff about.

If you're struggling for space for the rads in a kitchen, have you had a look at plinth heaters?

Definitely look at a hydronic plinth heater.

We had a large vertical rad and had problems with getting adequate heat through it. It was quite far from the boiler but it just didn't want to get properly hot.

Yeah they need good flow, and take a while to heat up due to lower surface area. Ours only got really going when we balanced the system and took some flow away from upstairs.
Missus still complains they dont feel as hot as the old rads, despite them doing the same job of space heating.

PS.dont use radiatoroutlet.co.uk. Had 2 rads that were broken, and still struggling to return them

Old London house had one in the utility/laundry room due to limited horizontal wall space. It was half the potent height as my plumber warned me that it was too far from the CH pump to have a floor to ceiling one without fitting a second/larger CH pump.

Given the house wasn’t built for CH and was retrofitted in the early 1950s, the plumber advised against increasing the system pressure.

I've gone with 3 different vertical types including this but not had them hung yet (need to plasterboard first)

The biggest is this and 45kg dry so ideally need brick to hang it from

Great advice.

You know didn't consider there'd be any issues installing a 170cm rad but will ensure there's a decent flow rate. Also looking into the plinths further. Opened up room will be 8X3

We have a tall vertical rad at one end of our kitchen dinner and a normal shape one at the other I wouldn’t want such a big space with a single radiator as you’d get hot and cold spots particularly if you have a lot of glass at one end. No problem getting ours hot but do be careful when you hang them out tall one was so heavy it broke the dot and dab plaster board so the plumber had to make some solid patches to hang it from!
