Oh dear god, I have just realised I have larped in my past .

At school we all had to make armour and weapons out of cardboard and shields out of hardboard, which we then painted our family emblems on. Then we reenacted the battle of Hastings. It was pretty fun actually, but then I was about 9 at the time :p.

I would like to go along to one just to see what the atmosphere is like, after all. It is a hobby. But you would never see me participating. I would feel like a royal ass.

You wouldn't once you got stuck in I'm sure. Remember that everyone else there will also be dressed up, you'd probably feel more out of place if you weren't dressed up.

How do you die or win in this game, it would for me be like in school when your playing cowboys and Indians.
I can hear them now going, no your dead, I killed you with fire. No you didn't I have fire proof clothes. No, your dead i cut of your arm, no you missed I stabbed you, ect ect.

ROFL

For a forum with lots of different types of geeks (let's face it - we all are of one kind or another - we're posting on an online overclocking forum), there's a lot of judgemental people on here. Ironic, heh.

LARPing is on another level imo. I know that overclocking/being into more performance based PCs is a geeky trait. But dancing around a woods pretending to be a wizard? I just don't think I'd be able to call myself normal.

Indeed at least the satanists, wiccans and druids dance around the woods naked.

went larping this weekend, it was excellent.

we dressed up as knights, myself and Nath

we ran around the woods shouting EXCELSIOR!

everyone was totally impressed

we looked SLEEK

We do not need photos, for larping, a true larpist just uses his exquisite knowledge of the fiction world, and thereby creates a completely epic scenario on the spot. We then store the pictures in our mental larp bank. After all, the more enthusiastic larpists out of us like to be in character 99% of the time. So I personally do not like using technology to share our larping tales across the universe, I simple like to use word of mouth.

I love both CRPGs and pen'n'paper RPGs, but I've never LARPed. I really don't see what it adds to the RPG experience, it just waters down the combat system. I do fencing so I get to swing swords irl anyway, don't need them to be padded with foam.

I did seriously think about joining a Camarilla LARPing group though (they use the World of Darkness setting). I can see that being really interesting since it's set in the real world rather than some fantasy universe. So there's the whole alternate reality gaming aspect to it that could come off you accidentally bumping into other people from the group while going about your daily business, and I thought that had potential. Didn't in the end, cause it was too far from where I live.

We stand no chance

I lol'd irl
