i currently have a ms optical oldish version (heres a pic)

intellimouse_optical.jpg

this mouse has lasted for years and ive used it to bits!!

how would it compare to a Laser Mouse 6000??

id like to stay with MS because i wouldnt be used to using anything majorly different with regards to gaming

also what would be a decent mousemat to go with the 6000? Ive had a shiny everglide mat before which was made of pure hard plastic the noise it made when moving my mouse around put me of it

The 6000 is a less reponsive mouse than you already have, hate it.

If you want to go laser, go for a mx1000 from logitech, wipes the floor with MS's offering.

I took the Intellimouse Explorer / mx1000 leap and it was a nice one to make! (Couple of years ago now.)

I like the steelpad SnS pad for all mice, basic but really does work well.

I was wondering something similar, actually. I have an Intellimouse Explorer 4 and wanted to get another one (the button's aren't working well anymore) but Overclockers don't do it anymore...

Can anyone suggest a good mouse under £25? I don't care about an exceedingly high DPI for 'gaming' or whatever, I was fine with the Intellimouse.

I have an mx5000 desktop set that includes the bluetooth version of the mx1000 mouse, and ive gotta say its one of the best pieces of kit ever... glides easily, responsive, accurate, long battery and rechargable...
MX1000 ALL THE WAY!!!

Another vote for the MX1000 - had one for well over a year, cant fault it, and im not using it with any mouse mat, just on my desk. Works just fine! :)

Still have an intellimouse optical pictured...looks like hell but still works perfectly! Have used MX1000's and they are very nice indeed, but for me, it's money spent better elsewhere, though would get an MX1000 in a heartbeat if me trusty mouse died

They all are. :)

I've got an MX1000 also (part of the MX3100 set), very nice mouse.

fair enough - I just was surprised when I opened mine several months ago as I had never heard anyone refer to them as such thats all :)

I went from the MS Intelli explorer to my MX500 and ratpad (can you still but these?) and still don't feel the need to change.

I have used the mx1000 extensivly at a mates house with a ratpad (which I recommended to him), thoroughly recommend to anyone, and now he can wipe the floor with me at CS

Well i'm using this MS one myself...

I went from an older MS Optical, but we have the one you showed above on one of the other PC's so i have used it.

The comfort mouse is highly responsive and i've had a good play around with some of the expensive gaming mice. I personally prefer this mouse, the response is just too much (all my mouse game settings had to be turned down as did windows mouse speed). The gaming mice are nice, but really can't honesty say i like them any better then this.

I've always opted for MS over Logitech myself just because the logitech don't sit in my hand as nicely nor feel as nice to use, this is just a personal note though. (Friend always buys Logi, so i am talking from experience)

Unfortunately OC don't do them, but all the other popular etailers do (cant mention names, sorry forum rules).

Hmmm.. my experience

the laser mouse doesnt light up my glass desk if i leave the pc downloading something overnight, i cant however tell much difference in the smoothness of using it, i only switched from an mx510 though

if your going wireless too, the G7 is a must.. sure it costs a lot but the battery packs are very handy, with other mice id forget to stick it back on the base all the time and constantly be switching batteries

I love the MX1000 but I can't help but feel it is less responsive than a cabled mouse. It took me a long time to get used to it in FPS games, anyone else found this? Almost like the pointer is a micro second behing my movement.

I would have changed it by now but it is perfect in every other way, the battery last ages too :D

I use the MS 6000 one and its not so bad.

A lot of the Logitech ones come with only 1 extra button (for a right handed thumb) and my play style demands at least 2 additional to left and right click.

Its the cheapest of the "Lazer mice" and its "ok" but not outstanding.
