laser or optical mouse - mx518

ok,

i've finally decided to get a the logitech mx518 mouse, but the only thing that is bugging is that am currently using a rather cheap logitech optical mouse and it doesn't work on a Fellowes Crystal Mouse Mat Pad with Wrist Rest Gel Black (leatherette one) it just doesn't move on it. has this anything to do with the optical rather than laser?

or even better can someone confirm that they are using the mx518 ontop of a fellowes leatherette mouse pad.

I've got an MX510 which I'm pretty sure is nearly identical to the 518, apart from the DPI. Never really had any problems with it not working on various surfaces. Can remember a big review on Laser vs Optical Mice a while back, can't remember the link, but the 518 performed very well in all the tests and I'm pretty sure was one of the recommended mice from that

Odd it doesn't work on your mousemat, should be perfectly fine.
