Hi all

Im just woundering if the Samsung SCX4200 All in One Mono Laser Printer is any good.

Spec

Up to 18ppm mono print speed.

Up to 250 paper capacity.

600 x 600dpi print resolution. ( is this much good ?)

4800 x 4800dpi scan resolution.

Below is the link to the samsungs website with the printer.

http://www.samsung.com/uk/products/...unctionproducts/scx_4200xeu.asp?page=Features

also i see the 3000 page toner price is £40-£50 is this reasonably for a black toner ?

thanks in advance for any advice

I've been using samsung lazers for a while now, their good for the price BUT more expencive lazers tend to have cheaper ink/page/£ ratios.

600x600 is the standard res for low end (£50) lazer printers, its fine for text but images will be crap, but then its a mono business lazer.
by contrast the current low end samsung lazer printer is 1200x600 iirc.

I had that one.

First toner did 998 pages.

Second toner was messy, had it replaced with a third that was also the same ( Light patches ) and that prompted me to think the printer itself was at fault, but it seems to have been a bad batch of toners.

Probably the easiest toner to replace mind you...5 seconds from start to finish.

I sold it off for £50 which is basically the price of the toner, so little annoyed.

When it worked however, it worked well, and had my replacements been good, thn it would have been agreat printer overall... Print quality seemed to be spot on, but I was not able to compare it against another Mono lazer, only what I remember, but it seemed fine.

Thanks very much to both of you.

Think i'll pass on the half price deal argos has on it then £64.99.

Im in no rush to buy a printer as i wont really use it to much but its a very handy thing to have.

Im not interested in color so much as i wont be using it to do photo's but would like it to be able to print images / pictures in black and white (like printing a webpage or similar).

Thanks again for advice ;)

£65 eh?

Definitely worth that... I paid £90 for it and for the use I had, It wasnt worth it, however, had I kept it, the value I got would have been much better. As is the case with Lazers.

It wasnt too bad actually at attempting to print colours.. I shot many a full colour picture through it in a "Lets have a look" kind of mood and almost all of them came out fine... Grey-scales much like a BW TV really, not just black or white... Well, black.

Is it likely laser printers will come down more in price or have they pretty much settled on there prices.
