Last minute advice before purchasing 12700 or 12700F

Hi all.

On another post I received some excellent help on which motherboard & CPU to get.

The 12700 was highly recommended and in particular the F variant.

Before I place my order for the F I just want to make sure I'm making the right decision not getting the 12700 with the igpu?

I'm not a content creator or streamer which seems to be the main reason for getting integrated graphics but I do like the idea of having it in case my 2070 super breaks at some point.

Is there any other reason I should get the 12700 or should I get the F?

Having a igpu is important to you buy one with it.

For the sake of £10 get the one with the iGPU, its worth that for the peace of mind.

No one bats an eyelid when ryzen doesn't have an igpu. :cry:

If you don't need it then no point wasting money on an igpu.

But there hasn't been an option to have one for a tiny % difference in cost, the same advice would be given if that were true for AMD parts. Not getting the iGPU for £10-15 seems like lunacy to me.

Was that 12700 F just laser cut to create a skew or was it faulty

For that difference as already stated might as well get the iGPU included.

I can get a 12700F for £317.99 free delivery, nowhere that I have seen has a 12700 for under £350 and that's with delivery on top.

Thank you all for your thoughts. If I can find a 12700 at these prices quoted I will definitely get one.

i switched to AMD the last couple of years and honestly miss having an igpu because it comes in handy sometimes.

Right I've found a 12700 for £340 - £22 difference. That's doable.

iGPU aside are the 12700 & 12700F the same chip with no further differences? I read somewhere something about "binning" I have no idea what that is but it said something along the lines of a badly binned 12700 is much worse than a badly binned 12700F.

Like I said I'm not sure what that is and I trust members of this forum over someone on a random website.

In this case its about "Salvaging" not "Binning" the F series don't come with iGPU's often because the iGPU is broken, so Intel sell it with it disabled.

That's it, the CPU its self in both these versions is identical.

it's another 7% on top of the cost of a 12700f

depends on how cost sensitive OP is ofc
value-wise, 12700f definitely comes out on top (until the dgpu dies and one needs an igpu for diagnostics) :cry:

I've just read somewhere that if you have an iGPU and a dedicated GPU which I have then the iGPU will be turned off, is that correct? It further went on to suggest that before booting for the first time to remove the dedicated card so it forces the iGPU on and add the card later.

As I have never had a CPU with iGPU before is this correct?

I'm currently on Windows 10 but intend to install a fresh Windows 11 with this new chip, is there anything like the aforementioned I need to know or do?

You can change these settings in the BIOS, usually if you plug in a monitor to the motherboard ports then it will use them (i.e. through the IGP).

I've had both and tbh i would get with the igpu, much easier to diagnose issues that are graphically related. Without the igpu you'll want a spare graphics card to test at least. It's just in case these kind of things happen...

I have a I7 9700K with an IGPU.

All I do is disable the igpu in the bios as I have a 2070S but as others have mentioned its handy to have for troubleshooting or if you wish to remove the dedicated card to reduce power consumption
