Just about to hit the big orange order button. Would appreciate any last minute saves to stop me doing something stupid or missing something. (Already got 680gtx, os and peripherals sorted). Have a 120mm prodigy fan sitting around as well. Will this all work together? Is there anything on the this week sale that I should swap in etc.? Using it for photography and gaming, not planning to overclock. (Also yes I have free postage, I'm not logged in on Chrome and the basket bookmark doesn't seem to work on Opera Next)

all id change is from 16gb to 8gb of memory and spend what you'd save on a Samsung evo 120gb ssd instead

8gb is plenty ram imo

hmm 4771 looks like a good call to me. I kind of want to go with 16Gb just for futureproofing's sake; with my D800 36MP files, heavy photoshop files run several gigabytes in size for the tiffs/psds which has choked on 8gb in the past for me.

That said, the Samsung SSD is only about a tenner more than the Kingston, what is it that you would say the Samsung is better for other than marginally better performance figures? Would happily bump that one up if it's worth it.

Samsung is better all round

and 16gb then if heavy photoshop work ect

you can also go for h87/b85 chipset mb????

I use 16gb with the my 7D running PS & Lightrooms v3, it's a good call. I would hate to go back to 8gb now, it would be an issue. 16gb is what you want, however, I would make sure it's nice and fast (2133mhz+)

This would be my recommendation:

Faster & Bigger SSD
Seriously fast RAM making light work of your large files as well as creating a more efficient system
SP120's to replace the stock fans on the H80 and replaced 4770k with 4771. If you have a desire to overclock later, you can get a 'k' variant and use the same board.

Okay 16gb and the Samsung it is. EDIT: what about the Kingston HyperX SSD's then? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-026-KS&groupid=1657&catid=2101&subcat=2103

And yeah I considered going with the h87 type boards. My only concern is no wifi, and I don't know if I'll have an ethernet connection at uni (some of the rooms do, some don't). Are there any moderately quick USB 3.0 receivers I can use should I need to pick one up, or is a motherboard really the only option for m-itx (given I can't use a PCI card for it)?

hmmm... all things considered the changes I'm thinking are:
Dropping from a 4770k to a 4770 (the 4771 is identical for my usage and £15 more expensive)
Samsung Evo SSD 120Gb OS drive
Since I'm not overclocking, and the GEIL sticks I selected are 1600Mhz anyway, dropping from the z87 to a b85 to save c. £70. Wifi adapters look to only be about £10 should I need one.

If I go with that motherboard and the same PSU, will I need anything like split wires to power all the fans or similar? I remember on my cousin's build there was only one fan socket on the mobo (the only other mitx mobo I've got experience with) and I'd rather not have a situation where everything arrives and I find out I'll need a couple more cables here and there etc.?

What should I get with this build? Loads of them tend to be 5.25" bay ones and given the prodigy only has one bay surely that wouldn't work? Unless I install Windows and then take out the disk drive?

Edit: Final check actually now that I think of it. Since this is a mITX system and I'm required to clean out my room between terms at uni, I'll be taking it back and forth anyway (thus no use having two separate desktops, one at home and one at uni, as was the original plan) in that secnario I may be able to re-use some components other than the 680, but I'm unsure on compatibility with the rig as it stands. I have a Corsair h50 cooler, Coolermaster 1100W Ultimate PSU, a generic optical drive and a couple of spare hard drives that may be of use. I won't be using the mechanical hard drives in all likelihood given I'll be taking the HDD cage out of the prodigy to make room for the 680, but could I use the other components?

Also an MSI power edition 680 will fit in a prodigy, right? I'm fairly sure I've seen Lightning cards in the prodigy chassis which are physically identical.

On final check before I order?

What fan controller options do I have given only one 5.25" bay (which will be used for optical bay)?
Can I re-use anything from my Corsair H50 or Coolermaster Ultimate 1100W PSU?
