Last minute deals - are they still a thing?

So, decided months ago that we will book time off work but won't book a holiday and will just choose something right at the last minute with no planning.

Partly to get a deal and partly to bring some excitement and reduce the requirements of planning, me and my wife are planner types and if we decide to do anything we have to plan it to detail, I'm a bit more free and easy although we have a defined plan I'm not upset if it goes to pot, my wife though.... Massive stress head.

So we've set ourselves a challenge.

That being said though are last minute deals still a thing? I know once upon a time there were bargains to be had, but something tells me they aren't really about anymore

Yes they do still exist. If you're not very fussy / maximum flexibility then you can usually find them. Our friends managed to bag a real last minute deal last year with literally booking it in the afternoon to having the last flight out of the day.

This is what we are looking at, so good to know deals can still be had
