Hopefully will receive this tomorrow and suddenly thought that it might not have the necessary cables for connecting the monitor and PC or the PC and the power supply for examples. Can anyone advise.

Further, is it worth buying a sound card and, if so, which would be best (and go with the other components) around the £50-60 price mark?

Thanks to everyone who helped with the inital spec,

Kevin

SATA data cables come with the motherboard.

The PSU has all the power cables needed and a kettle lead to go to the wall socket.

The speakers have all the cables they need to connect to each other and then to the PC using a 3.5mm jack they also have a power lead to the wall.

This just leaves the monitor which I cant see listed? did it come with a DVI or HDM cable? if it came with a old type VGA cable then the GTX570 will have a DVI-VGA converter in the box.

Nope.

Hi Stulid,

Already have the monitor - Samsung B2430H. I bought an HDMI cable to connect it to the Xbox and the monitor worked perfectly out of the box without any adjustments. I think it comes with a DVI-DVI cable so should be fine. Thanks again for the info - very re-assuring.

Looks nice, pretty much exactly what I'd buy if I was building from scratch. Just noticed the price though. I was looking at upgrading using the same CPU, ram and a similar mobo for £375 inc. vat - I always forget how much the extra bits and pieces add up (case, psu etc.)!

If you are overclocking, some good quality thermal paste might be useful? Not sure what you get with the 2500K retail.

The thing I learnt once the hard way is to clear a massive tidy space before you start so you're not likely to knock anything off the table and break it...

Andy,

This is my first try so intending to keep it as simple as possible - once it is up and running I would like to overclock it if the rig has potential for it. At the moment a small part of me is still saying, "why didn't I get a pre-build?" as I have always done before. However, the idea of putting it together myself, even if relatively simple, and then doing some tuning (overclocking) really appeals to me. Without this forum I would certainly have got a pre-build so if it does go wrong I will be on here alternately lamenting shamelessly and begging for help. I intend to have fun no matter what!

So - perhaps will get some thermal paste next week...
