Sorry, but I was just wondering if someone could explain to me the purpose of "the flesh"

What were all those people doing? Why had they been infected with every disease in the world? How would that help cure other people?

I just didn't get it at all :o

I'm assuming that it is so the nurses can come up with the cures by repeatedly testing on humans.

For minor illnesses they could pull antibodies out of them that their immune systems had generated. For major ones....well, it's a near unlimited supply of lab rats to test on. <shudder>

Great first episode BTW, well worth the wait :)

Most vaccines are created by utilising the disease they are intended to cure. This is then synthesised however it would seem that the cats need the actual disease to create substantial amounts of the vaccine. Add to this the fact that there are new diseases occuring all the time and it would be necessary to continually have test subjects in order to create vaccines...

or summat like that, i could just be talking rubbish

Well if they could cure all the diseases in the world, what was the need to keep that many of them - even 5000 would have done wouldn't it?

And where did they get these "humans" from?

The two head cat nurses talked about a "brain stem policy" or something similar at one point. I guess these people could be clones - the Doctor says something along the lines of "They were born sick, they are meant to be sick, they exist to be sick", and one of the nurses refers to them as being "specially grown".

My interpretation was that they were clones of a few different humans - or something along those lines - that the evil cat people didn't consider real people, and who they performed extensive and instrusive research on.

Given that the Doctor's "I know some science" seemed to involve throwing 4 differently coloured solutions into a bucket (what happened to the "thousands of diseases" thing?), I'm not going to worry about it too much ;-)
