You could drop in a venice 3000 and overclock the heck out of it...

so that would be about

100 for venice,
120 for RAM
70 for motherboard.

You didnt say if you need a PCI-E or an AGP board, so it goes from there.

Venice should clock to about 2.4 MIN.... usually about 2.5 - 2.6. I have mine at almost 2.8 with a stock cooler.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 90nm (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA3000BPBOX) (CP-117-AM) £105.69

Plus the Asrock dual sata mobo for about £40 - £50

thanks for ideas. i thought about this system now. any opinions

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 90nm
OcUK Value 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200
Thermatake Silent 939 K8

If you want an agp only board you could consider the abit av8 3rd eye,but if you want an upgrade path to pci-e then the asrock is the way to go,it has both agp and pci-e.

That should be fine.
I have owned Via mobo's before & had no problems at all.
Should be a nice upgrade.
