Lateness at work

Depends what kind of mood they are in,

Apologise, say you understand the implications to your job and stead within the company due to your lateness, say you'll do your very best to prevent it happening again, and offer to work the hours you owe free of charge (yeah, sucks, but your reputation may somewhat be restored if you show dedication at this point).

If you havent had any disciplinary so far, then the worst they can do is give you a verbal warning for continual lateness. They cant give you more than one instance or discipline at a time (even though you were late they cant say, verbal, written, written, sacked).

Funny, often I have over a 60-100 mile round trip to get to some of the places I need to work. I drive, and am seldom late (though I don't have a "start time" except for meetings). You just have to plan your life better and just get up earlier.

absolute worst case you get a written warning...

its nothing

just stop being late...

if its only a verbal warning you can still keep being later until you get a written i htink... however its a bit cheaky to keep being late after you have been warned...

at the end of the day they pay you to be there between paticular times, its not unreasonable for someone to complain if you keep being late so dont be a dick about it.

I assume you made up the time at the end of each day? if so explain that you did not think anyone would mind however now you have been told it will not happen again...

FFS TURN UP 15 MINS EARLY for the next few months at least...

Hi Groen, well done on that impressive lateness record. That is really something to behold, quite an achievement!

I'd suggest that everything is fine, don't worry about the disciplinary. If they get shirty tell them you will take them to tribunal for sexual harassment. Job done.

I work 17 miles away from my job and i can go from work to home in 50 mins, some days, especially the end of last year, on some days it took 1 hour 30mins or even up to 2 hours on some days. Am i expected to arrive 1 hour before I start.

Taxi? Or get near work early but don't start (coffee shop? Canteen in work?). Could be more relaxing to sit down with a paper and a coffee before strolling into work than being late stressing about when the bus is going to arrive.

It is a very relaxed environment at work and I was never told that there was specifically a zero tolerance to lateness.

had you left 30mins earlier every day you would not have been late enough times for anyone to complain...

however im not having a dig at you I arrive late, leave early and take a 1:15 to 1:45 lunch break almost every day..

I'm more worried about the fact you just don't accept you're in the wrong. Your attitude isn't condusive to any employee, or colleague, I would want.

After examining this list they gave me it is full with errors, i don't work weekends and there is a duplicate and as someone pointed out the time was 8 hours not 15, could be a straw man though.

06/09/2010 15 (tube strikes)
07/09/2010 26 (this week was bad transport)
08/09/2010 28
09/09/2010 26
10/09/2010 36

20/09/2010 22 (duplicate, different time))
21/09/2010 38

22/10/2010 20

03/11/2010 32 (tube strikes)
16/11/2010 19
17/11/2010 39
18/11/2010 21
29/11/2010 57 (tube strikes)
30/11/2010 61 (tube strikes)

(440 mins) 7 hours

removed duplicates and weekends and calculated the time correctly, it is still bad but not as bad...

Going to look for another job though, because i just don't like working in the environment where you are on written warnings with ultimatums like "you are late once more and you have another warning" i just can't take that stress, so ill be moving on.

The stress of being lazy?

if you think any other employer will be any different your deluded.

You have a time to be at work so you have to do what you need to in order to arrive on time. Be it get up earlier if you know the weather is bad etc.

On a couple of occasions when there was snow it is excusable everyone had that issue. Tube strikes give people plenty of notice to work around it. Your being ignorant if you leave for work the same time when you know there is a tube strike then just blaming the tube strike when you arrive late.

Looks to me like your always looking for something else to blame, never yourself.

When I did IT for a law firm in the city our help deskers used to work on the shift rotation with one starting at 8 one at 9 and one at 10. I had a SMS/SCCM netlogon script recording when they logged into there PC each day as some people took the **** when no one else was there. Which from there point of view is exactly what you are doing.

Any time I was late for work I made it up after my shift was suppose to end. Seemed only fair to do so. Even if it wasn't my actual work, just tidying up or helping someone out.

I would say 10 mins late maybe once a month is the most that is acceptable without a really good reason, that is just farrrr too much

If it was zero tolerance you would have been let go already!

Looks to me like your taking the mickey a little!

To be fair, few years ago I was constantly late for work due to contstant partying :/ once I was even 2 hours late without even calling in.

Got reprimanded, somehow kept my job and am now supervisor myself

I was lucky, you may not be so lucky, if you want to keep the job, suck it up, sort out your mornings!!!

What about the times in red I have highlighted, why were you late?

Do you think another employer is going to be more lenient with your shocking timekeeping?

You realise most companies have disciplinary processes right? Good luck finding one which doesn't.
