I get moaned at for coming in at 13:30 on a 13:30 shift !!!
Because I'm really suppose to be ready to work at 13:30. It's easy to forget nearly everyday I'm 20mins late leaving due to the work load. None paid too.

Do you have any aspirations whatsoever or is this where you want to stay for the rest of your life. Neither is right nor wrong, I'm just having a hard time understanding your attitude.

So leave on time then. If there is too much work to do in your contracted time, that's thier problem, not yours.
Sounds like a manager isn't doing his/her job properly and certainly not resourcing correctly.

I come to work 30-40 mins early every shift thats even when im on mornings 6:30am start. Im there for about 5:55am, without fail.
I'm late twice a week by about 20-40 minutes; due to commuting from my girlfriends. Had a review recently and they never mentioned it. Saying that, I work in the games industry and we do some crazy hours sometimes. It pretty much all works out in the end =P.
He's an MP.
There are no thanks for not coming to work late, just a silly thing called a pay cheque.

Many people drink during the week (i dont have an issue with it) and many people struggle to get up in the morning. Just been a bad combination of delayed trains and me not leaving enough lee way time and me over sleeping occasionally due to me going to sleep to late.
I value you my time outside of work and I would rather stay up an extra hour than sit at starbucks in the morning
But i know it is my fault and i can't blame anyoen else, will try to sort my time keeping out. thanks for input.
You were late when there we no transport issues.
Honestly if someone I was interviewing told me that they had trouble getting up in the morning due to sleeping late the night before, I wouldn't think twice about rejecting his application.
I'd also put the person that gave you the job on a disciplinary as well just for incompetance!

in 24 months of work i have been late only 3 times and for 2 of those reasons where because i had forgotten by safety boots. Because those 3 times were all within 1 month i had a Warning. Your record is horrendous and its unfair on other staff members know one to blame but yourself.
its pretty simple really, if you do not start going in early then you WILL be late again, if you do not get the sack on this upcoming meeting then it is only a matter of time.

Do what I've done for the last 37 years then.
I make my way to work and sit in the car until x minutes before I'm supposed to start.
In the job I'm doing now I wait until my phone reaches 8:27am and I know I will be walking through the door at 8:29am and I'm sitting at my desk for 8:30am.
Get to your destination and sit down & relax for a bit but work out how long it takes you.
I've learnt my lesson getting to jobs early, working through dinners and working late for no extra pay so I keep to my exact times and no boss will ever deny that I don't give my all when I'm there.

You're right, the majority put in at least an extra hour per day. 8-6 seems to be about the norm. When I was a deputy my Store manager used to only do 8-5 however and there are plenty on my region who put in nothing extra. Though admittedly these tend to be the older guys who don't really want to progress any further.
when i worked for a competitor of yours (Morrisons) i was in a VERY small store (one of the smallest infact, was actually called a "sweetshop"), I started with no supermarket experience on over 20k as a department manager (well, halfway between department and assistant deputy manager, looked after the entire shop if other management weren't in which was about 4 hours a week and always outside of opening times and was a keyholder)
14k as a DM at a tesco sounds like you've got the numbers the wrong way round!
I thought my lateness was bad, I'm 2-3 minutes late 2-3 times a week, but NEVER leave on time (usually an hour or more after my finish time). It has been brought up in my review as an issue that my MD would like me to sort but it's not that important.
However, up to an hour late, consistently, is properly taking the ****. My commute can vary up to 40 minutes depending on traffic, just a fact of life that at rush hour things never go smoothly, I couldn't use the same excuse as you but translated for using cars "google maps said it only takes 30 minutes but it actually took me an hour and a half, it's not my fault the traffic was bad today! and yesterday. and the day before. and tomorrow.!"
