From a couple of reviews, it seems the 1060 beats the 480. But those benchmarks are from a few months ago, has anyone got latest benchmarks with latest drivers & game patches?

So far it seems the 1060 beats the 480 by about 10% in DX11

Here is a recent one using the 16.10.1 drivers. The difference is not that much

Also note that the 1060 on the above, is pretty much well overclocked, compared to the 480 which is not.

I would suggest the 1060 isn't over locked at all. It appears between 1700-1800 whereas a clocked one will go as far as 2150. It's still ahead of the 480 though. I did think the 480 was catching up but those benches show a difference that would only be extended once a decent overclock is added.

There are no actual clock speeds for the Nvidia cards listed. It's just the boost clock from the spec sheet. Every Nvidia card I've personally owned has boosted way beyond its rated minimum boost clock. The 980 Ti Classified I bought recently has a rated boost clock of 1291MHz for instance, yet it actually boosts to 1442MHz without touching anything. Pascal's GPU Boost 3.0 is generally more aggressive than 2.0 as well.

You can argue one way or the other about whether GPU Boost counts as "overclocking" as such, but it certainly does drive up performance right out of the box, whereas AMD cards have a rigid clock speed that will never be exceeded.

got it backwards.
480 for half the price and change vs a 1070 its within 14fps.
so gameplay wise which card will grow faster along the way and we know the answer.

480 is the best card this generation for any gamer at 1080p

.
I think the 480 is starting to beat it in some DX12 games.

AMD cards in general are performing extremely well in new games, look at CoD IW benchmarks and Titanfall2 benchmarks, be prepared for a lot of "those games are rubbish" etc from a lot of people.

Currently AMD cards are performing really well, the 480 is 13fps ahead of the 1060 on Guru3D bench of CoD IW and even ahead of a 390.

Looking at those Guru3D figures I would say that CoD IW has a CPU bottleneck problem @1080p which is skewing the figures. A GTX 1080 and Pascal Titan for example should not score exactly the same unless there is a problem with the test setup.

Having said that the RX480 is a very good card.:)

It is but where those games also offer dx11 the 1060 is still the faster card overall.

Where they are dx12 only well you can count them on one hand and find them in the bargain bin.

Please see the above benchmarks i posted for CoD:IW and Titanfall2, most sites have the 480 faster than the 1060 in DX11 in those 2 titles.

Yes its only 2 games, yes those games are probably terrible and probably are running on rubbish engines or whatever, the 480 is still faster... in DX11.

Those 2 titles will sell bucketloads also, one because it has Call of Duty written all over it and the other because some crazy people actually liked Titanfall.

Given the bench you posted is the exception to the rule and given there seems to be a bug or something as the titan matches the 1080 I'll wait for some more benches first.

Some pretty serious bottle necking going on there at 1080p in that Guru graph. 480 is as fast as a Fury X for example.

Well, my 480 definitely runs most DX11 games better than my 970 did. The peak FPS might not be much different, but it feels smoother and more consistent. DX12 runs WAY better, no contest there.

The games capped at 125.
