Latest COH version?

I've just reinstalled Company of Heroes and updated it using the files from the website to version 7.17 if I remember correctly. Well, whatever version is the latest in the downloads its currently at however when I go to play online it asks to download another 1700mb patch?

Anybody know what this is for?
 
The 1.7GB patch was them updating the original CoH so that it was compatible with the expansion (Opposing Fronts), allowing both to play each other etc. People who dont own the expansion get some benefits like all the new multiplayer maps etc.
