I have just ran the latest version of cpuz, but it doesn't give me the option to check my other core...I have a x23800.

See on the Processor selection it doesn't give me the option anymore to look at it it's blanked out, is this ok?

Another thing i have had this processor for a while now but never looked at the stepping so here's the stepping of the processor.

Ada 3800BAASBV
CDBHE 0531TPEW
1296789H50081

is this a good one then?...lol I have had it to 2.5 and it was stable but i am not really bothered with overclocking it so i put it back on stock.

Mmm, what does Ctrl, Alt Del/Windows Task Manager/Performance tab say?

Do you have 2 windows under CPU usage?

It looks like you don't have the ACPI multiprocessor enabled in Windows.

Did you upgrade to this CPU from a single core CPU over an existing windows installation?

That is weird!

My only guess would be to uninstall 1.37 and go back to 1.35?

If 1.35 works ok, then it must be a bug in version 1.37.

I would always try an unistall and reinstall of an app to see if it fixes it though.

I presume everything works as you'd expect?

ps Not that you have to exactly uninstall CPU-Z of course!

Anyway, I've just downloaded and installed 1.37 myself, and my screen shows exactly the same, ie no longer a drop down tab to select processor 2.

Just the 2 cores/2 threads boxes to the right.

I guess this is how it's meant to be now then? Or a bug!

I'm not sure the drop down box on 1.35 was actually any use anyway, so I'm guessing it's normal!

The problem was 1.37...i went back to 1.34 and it give me the option to look at both cores.

My machine is running nice nothing up there, i just wanted to know what was going on with cpuz. I should have thought of doing that myself but it is late and i am falling to sleep at my screen....lol

Thanx for ya help...it must be a bug because it really should let you see both cores.

I would have thought that both cores would give the exact same information

if you look at the box, it is a processor drop down box. you only have one physical processoer, but two physical cores. That is what it is detecting. The two cores should be exactly the same anyway.

Agreeing with Maddness here, it says cores: 2, and this is correct, if you have 2 processors, then the list becomes 'drop-down-able'

(i Like inventing words, it makes me feel big :D )

Bit weird that because the x2's have 2 processors = 2 cores which it is showing but it clearly isn't letting you use the drop down box.

In your meaning of 2 Dual xeons 2 = 2 seperate processors not on the same core, 2 seperate processor slots on your motherboard. Is this the meaning of it letting you have the option of using the drop down box.

As you can see on the pic i have put up from cpuz it is cleary stating there is 2 cores but no option of using the drop down box.

simple fact is were at the stage were you can have dual core by having 2 cores on one cpu, or by having 2 seperate cpus in the same motherboard, this in itself isnt a problem as it can in effect be displayed in the same way in cpuz, but what about when we get dual core cpus, and have 2 of them in the same motherboard, so the team at cpuz have cleared this up by removing the option to look at each core on the same cpu, (as they are both going to be clocked to the same speed anyway) so when we have dual core, dual cpu's, they will display correctly :) thats my theory anyways

Your X2 3800 and my Allendale 6300 are both single processors.

They have 2 cores, but they are still physically 1 processor fitted into 1 socket.

The Xeons mentioned are dual processor boards, eg 2 processors fitted into 2 seperate sockets.

I think the confusion comes from the fact that CPUz 1.35 and lower used to let you select 2 cpus from the drop down box, even with 1 physical processor. When you check it though, the information under each drop down is exactly the same, as you'd expect for a dual core CPU, so it's a bit of a useless feature for dual core processors.

I think they've just changed it to a more logical way of showing things now, and you'll only get the drop down box if you've got more than 1 physical processor, regardless of how many cores are on it.

2 cores doesnt mean 2 processors.

urs is s 2 core single (1) processor

the drop down box shows the processors not the cores

this is 2 processors and 8 cores
2 seperate processors with 8 cores (4 each)

this is 1 processor 4 cores
1 single processor and 4 cores on one

Got it now and nice explenation lads.

I thought the x2 was 2 processors on top of each other with a core each hence why i said 2 processors = 2 cores.

The thing that confused me was an older version of cpuz. On the drop down box it actually used to say Cpu#o & Cpu#1 this making me think it was actually 2 processors and 2 cores.
