Anyone got one of these, what are they like. I might be getting one for christmas. Seems good and more HDD space than my 40GB laptop .

I got the 30gig version which is the same except 80gb has about 3 hours more battery on videos and about 6 for audio.

They are very very good, well I'm an iPod fan from having my Mini also, build quality is good and the sound is very good! and of course it looks the beez kneez :D

I have had the mini for two years and has served me well. For past few months though its started to skip, slow loading times on songs and battery life is around 1 - 2 hours. Ive left it on charge all weekend too lol. But 80gb ipod should be sweet.

Also the 80 is much wider than the 30.

Does the black one get loads of finger prints like the nano's did ? and scratched ect. Im thinking of going for the white one. But would prefer the black one.

Oh didn't notice, never seen one up front didn't think it was that bigger!

Oh it's quite noticeable, I was in the Apple Store the other day and saw in on display in a dock, and thought hang on, that looks like my 4G ipod, but it's got the new bigger screen  and it turned out to be the new 80gig one. It's quite a bit chunkier than the regular one.

The 5.5G (the 2006 models) seem to have a new front panel that incorporates some kind of scratch protection - firstly, it feels different, and secondly, even the shop display models in the Apple shop actually have very few scratches. (You should have seen the 5G (2005) display models in the Apple Store - it was definitely not a good marketing exercise the way they were scratched to hell)

They also seem to show fingerprints in a less explicit manner. All in all, the new front cover seems to be a vast improvement in my eyes.

thats good to here as my parents are getting me on for xmas and thats the main worry for me :)

Hmm... I just did a Google search to see whether I could find more supporting sources, and some people are saying the cover's exactly the same to the 2005 models. I could swear it felt very different in tactile terms though, and the shop display model really did have very little scratches. Will have another look when I next stop by the Apple Store and check again.

Cover's the same yup, the only difference between the 5.5 and 5g is the search function as far as I know, apparently it had better battery life and gapless playback but these were added into the 5g's firmware I heard.

Black one does get a lot of fingerprints indeed, well mainly at the back it's pretty annoying either way though.

you call .12 of an inch much bigger , then my snake must be a python compared to your tadpole
Of course, what you neglect to mention (or fail to realise) is that a difference of 0.12 inch in this case makes the 80GB more than 25% thicker than the 30GB. It's definitely a noticeable difference.

My ipod 30gb has started to do the same, been looking at the 80gb as well.
On a side note, you mouse does not run at 1Ghz.....
its 1000hz or 1mhz :p

Nice to hear they have sorted out the naff screen, its got to the point where i can no longer watch videos and song titles are hard to see due to such bad scratching!

The diagrams Apple show you make the difference in thickness look huge, but tbh, the 80Gb, which IIRC is the same thickness as my 60Gb, isnt really that thick. Its still very thin, and still thinner than a lot of 'small' phones ive had, like W800s.
Still more than managable. :)
