I've been making use of my new 100mm f2.8 macro again so I thought I'd see what people think. Some non-macro ones this time as I wanted to see what it was capable of! (ok, on hindsight not many non macros but at least I tried!)

This was a hard capture, they run around pretty quick so I was very happy to get one slightly in focus!

Nice ones.

1) Lovely shot, nice colours. The only thing i would do is select the area outside the mouse and twig and reduce the noise and add a slight gaussian blur.

2) Different, nice comp and colours, I am trying to figure out what the background is exactly, i would guess it is some sort of mirror / shiny surface :confused:

3) Not too keen on the comp but the sharpness and colours are great.

4) Amazing flower and good sharpness, but a tad too red, maybe take down the red curves in ps.

5 & 6) Nice comp and colours. Love it.

7) I really have no idea what this is but it looks pretty cool. I love the wierd kind of blue light that comes off it.

EDIT:

8) Not too keen on this one, i dont like the really small DOF on the trunk, nice comp though

Regards points 1 and 4 this is due to my photoshop/monitor problems. On my screen the background for the mouse pic is completely black and in pic 6 the red doesnt look that bright to me.

Just loaded that on my p2000 (portable display) and I can see what you mean. Also the lower part of the flower should be bright yellow (it is on my comp) but on the p2000 it is a dull orange. GRRRRR!!!!!!!

The background on the leafy pic is a waterfall.

The blue thingy picture is a cactus (I played with the hue in photoshop). I'm glad you said it looked blue! If you had said purple or something I think I would be launching my monitor out the window!

Wow, some fine shots there:

1 & 2). Well captured shots, but I don't find them nearly as interesting as your other photographs.

3). Lovely shot, but I can't help but feel the hairy stems to the left are kind of distracting, would benefit from a crop I think. It is an interesting angle too.

4). My first thought was: NICE!. The depth of field is fantastic plus the detail of the pollen and the rest of the flower.

5 and 6). Very nice colours on this Peacock feather, and detailed too. Very nice lens you have there. Perhaps the subject is a little boring for me though.

7). Lovely detail on the Cactus there, much better than the cactus shots I could come out with and interesting too. My second favourite picture here.

8). I like this picture. Perfect depth of field and the lighting you got was fantastic. Which resulted in a smashing picture of a tree trunk, plus it's moss detail.

I do apologise if I have been too harsh

Thank you for the C&C and don't worry I they weren'tin the least bit harsh! I appreachiate your comments. Coming back to them now the peacock feather and the red plant are the only ones that interest me. I think I need some new ideas for the macro, I'm off bug hunting!

Great use of the bracket! Certainly cheaper than dedicated macro flashes!!

Where did you get your flash bracket from? If you can't mention the name of the shop, what is its make and model? How much did you pay?

Can't mention the name but it probably just out of a warehouse....

It's the manfrotto 330 macro flash bracket. Cost about £40 inc postage. It's a great bit of kit, holds the flash very steady and lots of room to manover. Although I've seen a few people mount a small ball head at the end just to get that bit more movement.

If you like macro but don't want to spend a crazy amount on a dedicated flash this is a good way to go. Lets me handhold where I couldn't before. But I must admit to being new to macro so maybe that was just bad technique.

WOW! Some fantastic shots :eek:

No.1 is a little too grainy and bland for my liking - maybe better B&W?

All the rest are awesome with number 7 being my favourite. Fantastic colours in all of them (apart from no.1 imo obviously)

These are wicked too! What is that in the first one? Its a pity you can't see the colours properly but its a bit noisy in the background. The abstract leaf one is cool, nicely done! Wicked quality with the macro, I'm guessing you're loving the lense! And did you nick the feather from the zoo?

The first pic is a field mouse. I think i'm going to follow the advice and convery to b&w and try to reduce the noise as well.

The feather was still attached to the peacock so thought it would be frowned upon if i stole it. Must have been quite an amusing sight to see me chasing the peacock around trying to get close enough to take the pic! (I did look for feathers lying around first but didnt see any).

That must have been a sight to see! You chasing a bird around...I bet you got a few laughs! And where did you see a field mouse? I've only seen one for about a second then it ran like lightning!

Not sure when I'm back in the bay, was planning on being back this week but for one reason or another it just didn't happen. Would like to be back soon, so we'll see!
