We have updated the SETI@home/BOINC database with current information from SETI@home Classic.
Hello, People of the Boards,
Here's a warning message that we will soon be ramping down these message
boards and we highly encourage everybody to start using the BOINC message
board system:

Of course, you'll have to register your account with BOINC to post new
messages there. In case you haven't done so, information is here:

More information about the new SETI@home in general:

Pretty much all DC projects will download updates on demand now - even non-BOINC ones (Folding@home does, for example). It is possible to block the updates if you want to, but doing so will prevent a computer from doing work after the update. There are also ways to avoid DNS spoofing attacks (some of which are implemented in the DC projects themselves).VeNT said:what I ment was that having a auto updating programme seems like a risk waiting to happen.
how hard would it be to alter the local dns listings to change the seti update page to another server (ie your own) thats hosting a virus so when someone clicks update on their PC it updates from your server address rather than the real seti servers?

i liked all the sneaky stashing and the competitive nature of it all...![]()

Actually, these aren't the last snapshots at all. We were just making up for the fact that we having sync'ed up the classic->BOINC stats in a while. It's not like we're shutting down tomorrow or anything. At least a month away. Probably a lot more.
