Four of the six major ISPs have stated that they will not be deploying Phorm type behavorial targetting advertising platforms.

Sky, Tiscali, Orange and Virgin Media(*) have all recently stated that they will not be using such technology so you can assume from that you personal information is safe

Only BT and Talk Talk are steam rollering ahead with plans to monitor nearly everything you read and write on the internet.

As for the other ISPs out there well it is now very unlikely that the smaller ones will be using such technology if the bigger fish are not using it. But be aware of the shenanigans which went on with Plusnet a few weeks ago - some Plusnet customers received the BT webwise invite and that was an unusual development.

(*) Virgin seem to still have the intention, and have given out mixed signals, but they have moved slightly off the fence. What is need is a clear statement given like Sky and Orange made.

The clickz article for starters.

Here's Neil Berkett saying:

"Our next initiative probably won’t be with the Phorms of the world."

Good statement from Orange:

"Privacy is in our DNA, so we need to be honest and clear about what we are doing. We have decided not to be in Phorm because of that... The way it was proposed, the privacy issue was too strong."

Spokesperson on behalf of Mary Turner (Tiscali):

"We have not implemented Phorm or any similar behavioural targeting system and we do not have any plans to do so."

Well, I didn't get anything from PlusNet about Phorm, but I'm outta there anyway - not because of this, but because I'm hoping the grass really is greener. :)

May as well be a protest vote though because I really don't like the idea.
