Howdy,

I havent turned my xbox on for about 4 months now, as I just havent wanted/had the time to play it.

Well I just booted it up and applied an update, now a friend of mine said he had problems with this update as it crashed his box a few times, and sometimes it just wouldnt boot.

Well I applied it and got in fine, well then it crashed. I then rebooted, black screen and nothing. Tried again, same thing.

So I tried for the 3rd time and got the lovely red rings showing :) Gotta love the xobx 360!

Well I know that the red rings doesnt always mean the machine is dead, and I will try again in a minute, but I just want to know if anyone else had a problem with this update? Or is it just me? And I will have to send it back to MS to fix the lump of plastic?

Anyone?

this is the first time i've heard of any issues with the latest update. if there were issues i'm sure one (or more) threads would have popped on here and other forums like the reviewer and xbox.com before now.

Well I just tried again and it black screened, then again and I am in live now.

But I was deleting old demos, and now all the colours on the screen have gone screwy? Something is up and I think it will die soon... got a feeling it will be going back to MS soon!

Take it you cannot get ya money back from them? Cos Id rather have the cash back than the 360, I've just been waiting for it to die cos of its reputation, and I don't think that should be the case. And I never play it? Better off waiting for the revised model, which they will have to do at some point right?

Silly question, but are you sure the video cable is plugged in properly, as that is what it sounds like is happening to me

Oh its in, I just booted it up again and it showed the xbox start up fine, then the colours went again and then it crashed, I think its knackered tbh.

I'm gonna send it back, try to get money back (which I doubt I will be able to) if not I'll ebay it.

Is there a way to revert back to an old version of live?

Tried 20 times now and it just crashes, or gets in for a while then crashes, colours are fine then they are not.

Gonna send it back to MS!

Me again :)

If officially broken, had a chat to MS and I have packaged it up ready to send back to MS under warranty... anyone want to buy a 360 when I get it back?? :)

Damn didnt know updates could kill them lol, ive been doing them without thinking :p and all has been ok no probs, only thing is the new IM dosent work for me lol? just me or have i missed something?

Yea I dont think they really do screw things up in general. Im thinking its that, but it may not be, the fact I hadnt turned it on for 4+ months might have something to do with it :)

Annoying that my mate has his 360 on all the time, and I never have mine on and mine breaks. Goes to show, wear and tear doesn't always kill things :)

Not fussed its going back to MS, I never played the thing... might get a PS3 instead, they don't implode... well generally they dont :) and that PlayStation home looks awesome!

If you want a refund it's the retailer you would have to pursue, since technically you didn't buy it from Microsoft so the contract isn't with them. Google the sale of goods act, not entirely sure but you probably have a decent case, although that won't stop the retailer from telling you to get stuffed (most of them don't have a clue and/or don't care about their legal responsibilities under the SOGA).

how much warranty you got left on it? since it will be a refurbished console with hardly any warranty, its only worth £100

Only worth £100?? Rubbish! People pay £100+ for faulty 360's on ebay so a fully working console (with cables/joypad I presume) will be worth considerably more, whether it's refurbished/with warranty or not.

How many of you have lost your 360's so far and had to send it back to MS?

Iv had 2 die in 4 weeks both consoles where made this year

Thats shocking, why are they so poorly made? The PS3's don't die all the time do they? If Sony can do it I'm sure MS can?

There is an article on anandtech with regards the springtime update. It seems its not the first time nor i doubt the last time where microsoft issue an update and the RRoD happen.

I have one myself and rarely use it. All in all ive spent £600 on it including the wireless wheel and imho it doesnt compete with my pc setup.

Thinking about selling it myself as im sure a 5 month old console with 8 games and a wireless steering wheel should fetch a few pound.

Even with Sonys delay in releasing the ps3 i feel the lack of QC and updates that knacker your console can only be a good thing for Sony.

your the one talking rubbish you can get a core for £140 brand spankin new, why would anyone give you over a hundred for a refurb with hardly any warrany if any

On average how long did it take to get ya box back? Once it had been sent of course? I have UPS collecting mine tomorrow I think.
