Hi,

I'm writing a technical report, around 90 pages long, with lots of equations, references, citations and cross references.

I have used Word for this previously, but have been advised to use Latex with Mendeley.

Can anyone vouch for this? I have seen Latex documents, and visually they look better than Word documents.

Thank you :)

For a technical document I find latex is far better than word. It certainly takes time to get used to, but it's worth it in the long run :)

My advice would be to google around for a basic template and then it's a case of filling in the blanks for your document. It saves you having to make one yourself which can be fiddly to start with.

I would also echo LaTeX, its what scientists use for their documentation (I did my whole thesis in it). Once you learn how to use the language to create what you want the process is much simpler than word (especially for formulae).

Find some tutorials on the web, and then start to work with a very basic template to get your hands dirty. Be warned though that the download for LaTeX on windows last time I did it was around 2+ Gigs and took a while from a slow server.

If you need any help with the syntax etc, then give me a shout!
