hi, quick question about upgrading the ram on my lappy

it has 2 sticks of 512mb in at the moment

could i put a stick of 2gb in one slot and run 2.5gb ram ?

just making sure that it can take that much in one slot

you can, but is the ram dual-channel? and will you lose dual-channel if you run mismatched chips? and will there be a noticeable performance hit because of the lack of dual channel? these are the questions i would be asking.
 
well does anyone have answers to atomisers questions ?

its mainly music software im using , will these even take advantage of the dual channel much ?

i alway thought dual channel was a bit of a gimmick ? what is its actually real world advantages ?
