Lativa, Lithuania, Estonia...

I went to St Petersburg in summer 2003 and was awesome, it is my favourite city in Europe. There is so much stuff to see there and could easilly fill a few weeks.
It's a place of massive contrast too, old and new, filthy rich and dirt poor, clean and dirty, conservative and seedy. I wouldn't live there but it's a cool place to visit.

I was in st petersburg a few summers ago as well, some of the buildings there from the imperial era from the 1800's are amazing, the winter palace for example.

I have also been to talinn in estonia and it was really nice in the summer.

Col_M I see you are from Prague, are you czech or did you move there? Im going to study there in september as an exchange student but I'm a bit worried about the language, eastern european languages are hard :(

slambo69, I'm English and I moved here from Plymouth in Jan last year. Yeah the language is pretty hard, more so than I Russian I think hence why I haven't put much effort into it, a lot of people here speak English and it's difficult to get the motivation if you can get by without. I can say please, thanks, hello, goodbye and a few more, the basics really.
You say you're going as an exchange student, are you staying with a Czech family? as that will really help you learn the language.

No I got into student halls in a place called strahov, its near the castle I'm led to believe. As my elective I am taking Czech for beginners but I wont be surprised if it harder than my engineering classes!

I have visited prague before but whats it like to live there? Do you visit the pubs and clubs?

Strahov is ok, there is a massive student halls/hostel complex there, it's on the top of a hill and you can see all over the city, the problem is that it's quite a way from the centre but there are regular busses to Dejvicka and Andel (Tescos is at Andel).
I occasionally go to clubs but go to bars more often, the clubs I go to are either Celnice or Mecca. Add me to MSN (in trust) if you want so we don't take this thread too OT.

Lithuania is a great country, beer is really cheap and the women are very friendly to drunk guys, had a great time, would do again without any thoughts

Bulgaria is apparently very nice, although apparently that is becoming popular with british holiday makers. Croatia is also very, very nice clear blue seas.

However, have you ever considered iceland?
