Launched programs minimise to taskbar on Vista

We've just been upgraded to Vista at work (don't laugh - it's a big company so it's taken years for this to happen !)

One thing I don't like about Vista is that whenever you launch a program, it always opens to the taskbar (in a minimised fashion) - is there any way to stop this happening ?

I can't understand why this would ever be useful as, generally speaking, when you launch a program it's because you want to use it !

I just hope I have the admin rights to implement any solutions you suggest...

Thanks.

Wonder why the upgraded everyone to Vista AFTER the Windows 7 launch date! What a strange IT department you have! We have been testing Windows 7 for a while at work and have just started rolling it out. All the machines runs looooads faster now its great! Go give them a slap :D

theheyes - I'll check and see exactly which programs it affects when I go back in on Monday.

One example is when you click on a link in an email, it'll open IE to the taskbar, so that an additional click on the corresponding taskbar button is required to maximise IE in order to view the webpage.

Totality -tell me about it ! The move from Windows 2000 to Vista has taken a few years to manage, as there are 60,000+ employees worldwide and something like 1000+ software applications to take into consideration, so I'm sure you can appreciate the amount of effort required.

The company I work for is nearly 400,000 employees strong, and works in software development (thus loads of applications to consider), and we've already started rolling out Windows 7. Tell them to pull their finger out :p

Doesn't sound right you could check the properties of the shortcut and ensure it's not set to minimised. It's definitely not default windows behaviour and, I'd guess, that either a 3rd party app or some reg settings have done this.

I'd build a new PC and then try it with just e-mail, then add more and more programs until it stops working.
