LAV filters is being developed by someone at doom9.org and is an alternative to haali media splitter. Before installing LAV Filters you must remove haali media splitter.

I find the quality of the video better than haali media splitter. There are easier ways to play x264 and do spdif passthrough. Lav filters works perfectly as a splitter and the audio filter works great but it does not work with DTS (i think it is still in dev). So you have to disable the DTS and use something else. This is what i currently use:
mpc-hc 1.5.1.2903
Then i have ffdshow-tryouts for video and disable the spdif passthrough on the audio settings output page. Annoyingly the ffdshow dts and dts hd from ffdshow do not work with lav filter yet.
Then on the lav audio page disable dts passthrough.
So to get DTS working but not dts hd, you can use the microsoft dts passthrough that works automatically or you can install ac3filter and use these settings. They suggest using the arcsoft dts codecs but i can not find that codec. If anyone else has any better suggestion for dts let me know.
I think Lavfilters is going to replace the internal filters in mpc-hc at some point.
