My Honda GX120 Engine in my mower is 'pulsing' it's revs all by itself with no input from me, both on idle and in drive, has anyone ideas what it could be? I've checked all the obvious things so has anyone got any other suggestions?

- air filter clean?
- exhaust may be full of oil/sediment if it's a two-stroker?
- carb may need a clean out.

how old is the mower ?

These engines usually have a "pneumatic" governor, basically a flap that is pushed by the airflow created by the cooling fan which is part of the flywheel. Any slight binding in the linkages, or stretched/broken springs can cause this hunting.

It can also be caused by fuelling problems e.g. a blocked jet in the carb, or flooding due to knackered needle valve etc.

2JZ swap tbh.

Sorry....

My mower is doing the same, Honda engined but only 1 year old.

If i put the throttle in the highest setting (on the edge of the choke) its ok, any other setting and the revs pulse up and down and on lowest settings stall.

I assumed old fuel and have put up with it but will check the above - cheers :)
